Official Provides Praise for Recent Hockey Game

The following letter is from an official at a recent Minnesota Hockey squirt game. It provides his thoughts regarding the positive play he witnessed during the game. Congratulations and way to go to all the players coaches, and parents who were in attendance!

Coaches,
I just wanted to pass along to you and your coaching staff, team, and parents what a pleasure it was to officiate your B Squirt game this past Tuesday. I thought it was a very entertaining game and it was one of the best games I have officiated in quite sometime.

Both of your teams were well coached as evidenced by the minimal number of offsides and icing calls and we saw very little “stick work” that you often see with teams not skating as they should.

Both of your teams were skating their tails off and moving the puck and it was evident when you consider what a fun game it was. It was hockey at its best.

In addition, all of the fans seemed to cheer for the kids with the best intentions, and a positive attitude. I don’t recall anything negative from anywhere in the arena that evening.

I don’t recall which of your teams had 2 and which had zero on the scoreboard when the game was done, but in my book that game should be looked on as a success by everyone that was involved. Win or lose. It was pure, clean and hard-fought hockey and I wish every game I officiated was that good.

Hats off to you all for a great experience.

Reader Helps Spread Respect & Protect Message

We recently received this letter to the editor from a reader regarding the “Respect & Protect” campaign and thought we would share it with you:

Our family read the Respect & Protect article and we are in full support of the program. The message it sends is very important Please send me 20 stickers so I can make sure that all players and coaches of my son’s team in Elk River have one on their helmet. Keep up the good work Minnesota Hockey!

Letter to the Editor: Respect and Protect

The following email was received from a recent newsletter sent out regarding the “Respect and Protect” campaign. We thought you would enjoy reading this letter to the editor:

Greetings from south central Minnesota! I am requesting a supply of helmet stickers for the hockey officials in this area. I read your article about “Respect and Protect” in the new online HEP newsletter and agree whole-heartedly with the content. I work with approximately 60 local officials as the Mankato Hockey Referee Association President and also as the Bulldogs Hockey Association (St. Peter) Referee Coordinator. I also work closely with the MN District 4 Supervisor of Officials as the D4 Officials Committee Director.

I would like to see our officials wearing the helmet sticker to help remind the players and each other about the importance of trying to prevent brain injuries. I have a sister who has been living with the effects of a traumatic brain injury for more than 25 years. I also have a son who suffered a concussion while playing hockey two years ago.
