Special Announcement from Minnesota Hockey

minnesota_hockey_logo_postWelcome to the first edition of the Hockey Education Program (HEP) newsletter.  It’s hard to believe that it has been five years since we created and introduced HEP at the “Face Off.”  Changing the  youth hockey culture and behaviors was certainly an ambitious undertaking but one that we were confident would produce desired results.  And it has!  We aren’t where we want to be yet, but we have taken great strides to creating a more positive environment for our hockey players to learn, develop and have fun.

Penalties are down from where they were 5 years ago, there is a greater focus on skill development and less on game results.   And although hard to quantify, it also appears that general sportsmanship, whether involving the players, coaches, parents and officials is continuing to move in the right direction.

That is why we are so excited about the HEP newsletter, this latest step in the evolution of HEP.  Those involved with HEP will likely tell you that the biggest challenge HEP has faced is getting critical information to our membership.  With this newsletter, we will now be able to communicate HEP articles and programs directly to our members.   We hope that you find the HEP Newsletter useful and enjoyable.  I would also invite you to visit the “new” HEP webpage on the Minnesota Hockey website for more information.  Please feel free to email any questions or suggestions to me at info@minnesotahockey.org.

Thank you for being part of the Minnesota Hockey Family!

Sincerely,

Dennis Green
Minnesota Hockey
President
